2007-2009: Casco Development, Portland ME

Technical Communicator

  • Recorded and narrated professional-grade demonstration movies using TechSmith’s Camtasia Studio. Leveraged Microsoft Visio in the production of diagrams for these movies.
  • Maintained large single-source documentation solutions using Madcap Flare. I advocated purchasing this software and become proficient independently in a few weeks.
  • Developed a style guide and an attractive style set in both MS Word and HTML/CSS for all customer-facing printed documentation. Became the office’s MS Word guru in the process
  • Attended the Society of Technical Communication’s 2008 summit in Philadelphia.

2004-2005: The Free Press, Portland ME

Executive Editor

  • Responsible for entire paper. Balanced budget, organized meetings, hired and fired staff, enforced quality control and procedural discipline.
  • Produced stories, edited and proofread others’ work, designed layout of the paper, retouched photographs, sent paper to press on deadline. Chaired an editorial board.
  • Served as the public face for the paper. Advocated for the paper in meetings with the University’s president, his staff, the student senate and university police. Also represented the Free Press in meetings with other student leaders.
  • Primary achievements: modernizing the computer system, creating an illustrating staff.
  • Attended the Management Seminar for College Newspaper Editors at the Grady College of Journalism, University of Georgia, in 2005.

2000-2006: Resnet @ the University of Southern Maine, Portland Maine

  • Wrote documentation for Resnet staff, students and faculty. These included training guides for the department and warnings against threats to the network for end users.
  • Installed and maintained networking infrastructure, including routers, fiber-optic links, and patch panels.
